Weekend: 'State Wars' Title/All-Star Games All Weekend

Here’s some of what’s going on in and around Darien for Aug. 9-11:

·      The cream of the crop of State Wars Roller Hockey championships is definitely this weekend at the Darien Sportsplex. Friday through Sunday features some of the biggest games, semifinals and finals, as well as the Alkali Hockey Elite AAA All-Star Game, prominently highlighted in the schedule, at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. All games are free; if you haven’t gone yet, now is the time! Once more, find the complete schedule here, or just wander into the ‘plex!

·      The Darien Swim and Recreation Club (1001 Hinsbrook Avenue) is holding their last Family Social of the summer on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. “Come join us for a day of fun and sun with friends and family (open to members and guests.)” It’s $6 for members, $3 for child members and $6 for guests atop the cost of a guest pass. Bring a dessert to share!

·       “It will be ‘Golden’ around Happy Dog Barkery in Downtown Downers Grove Saturday (August 10th). The rescue group As Good As Gold will be gracing our storefront from 10-2.  Volunteers would love to answer your questions about their rescue, educate you on the numerous ways you can assist the organization or teach you the adoption process.  Make sure to stop by for a belly rub and some yummy treats! “
