The Tri-State Fire Protection District predates the City of Darien by nearly 30 years. Sixty personnel serves an area of 21 square miles that includes parts of Darien, Willowbrook, Burr Ridge, unincorporated Clarendon Hills and unincorporated Hinsdale. The team responds to between 4,500 and 5,000 calls each year. 

The district offers numerous public education programs, including home safety inspections, fire station tours and fire safety seminars for nursing home workers. The staff is also committed to numerous service projects, including fundraisers and a holiday season toy drive.
