Durkin Takes Landslide Victory in 82nd District

The incumbent Republican representative defeated challenger Laura Reigle with 75 percent of the vote.

There will be a familiar face on the November ballot for the Illinois House’s 82nd District. Incumbent State Rep. Jim Durkin won the district’s Republican nomination with 75.4 percent of the vote, defeating challenger Laura Reigle. No one ran in the 82nd District Democratic primary, which means Durkin will be running unopposed in the general election, barring the appointment of a Democratic candidate. “We’ve got significant challenges ahead of us,” Durkin said Tuesday night. “I’m honored Republican voters in the 82nd District have confidence that I’m the best candidate to represent their interests in Springfield.” With the primary over, Durkin said the Illinois General Assembly now faces a month-and-a-half of tough discussions as they work…

Congrats to State Rep. Jim Durkin on his reelection to the Illinois House. Laura Reigle has been exposed as a fraud, liar and fake Conservative who has no right running as a Conservative. She is a Democrat masquerading as a conservative. Guess what Laura you may have fooled the Lemont Tea Party but you didn't fool anyone else. The Lemont Tea Party is a complete failure for supporting you and your…   more ›

82nd District Candidates Debate Party Leanings

On election eve, State Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) and challenger Laura Reigle question whose platform more closely aligns with the Republican party.

It’s been relatively quiet in the 82nd District leading up to Tuesday’s Republican primary. But with hours left before the election, Illinois Rep. Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) and his challenger Laura Reigle each took a swing at the others’ party loyalty. “My opponent has voted in the last three Democratic primaries, in years where Pat Quinn and Rod Blagojevich were at the top of the ballot,” Durkin said in a statement released Sunday night. “She claims to be a Republican but she still holds an elected Democratic committeeman position in Downers Grove Township and has been working to get Democrats elected for many years now.” Reigle disputed the statement Monday with a release of her own defending her position in the township.  “Jim, in …

Laura Reigle running for state representative is so absurd. I'd wish Jim luck if he needed it but he doesn't because Reigle is going to get destroyed in the election today. Has there been a worst campaign ever than the one Reigle has run? Business cards at Jewel, annoying robocalls, give me a break. Reigle has got to be living in some type of fantasy land, she calls herself a consultant to …   more ›

Jorg, I think you have an agenda other than seeking the truth. That is really sad. Where in the article did it say Malley and Aurelio were incorrect? Were funds moved without board approval? That should be a simple yes or no.   more ›

Durkin, Radogno Among Early Filers for March Primary Election

Candidates have until Dec. 5 to file their nomination petitions. Because of a lawsuit challenging Illinois' new congressional map, the filing period for U.S. House candidates has been pushed back.

Let the election season officially begin. Candidates for state and local offices begain filing their nominating petitions Monday for the March 20 primary election. Federal, state and judicial candidates file with the Illinois State Board of Elections in Springfield, while candidates for county-wide office file with the Cook County Clerk. The deadline to file is Monday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. People seeking a seat in Congress will have to wait a bit longer to file because of a GOP lawsuit challenging the state's newly drawn congressional boundaries. Last week, a U.S. district court ordered that the filing date be pushed back. The congressional filing period is now Friday, Dec. 23 through Tuesday, Dec. 27. According to the Illinois State Board of …

It doesn't take rocket scientist to know the big problem in the State of Illinois. Try looking at the funding of our State pensions and you've identified a major protion of the problem. Where is the "statesman" who will speak up for our financially beleagured state and speak the only word that will rosolve the problem? We need to declare bankruptcy, call a bankruptcy judge and cut the state …   more ›

State Rep. Jim Durkin Talks Unfinished Business in Springfield

Candidate Q&A: State Rep. Jim Durkin, the 82nd District incumbent, says the General Assembly should focus entirely on state agency budgets in the next session.

Jim Durkin is no stranger to Springfield. He's represented the 82nd District in the Illinois House since 2006, and before that represented the 44th District from 1995 to 2002. Durkin also served as the ranking Republican on the committee that impeached former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. He's facing Matt Mostowik on the Nov. 2 ballot.  Patch chatted recently with Durkin on how to balance to budget, where the cuts need to be made and how the House can regain its citizens' confidence. Darien Patch: What unfinished business do you have in Springfield? Jim Durkin: The issues you see here in the district are not unlike the issues you see in the state. What are we going to do about debt? Are we ever going to balance the budget? How are we going to do …
