Darien's American Idol Contestant Sent Home

Darien native and Downers Grove South grad Mariah Pulice was sent home during Hollywood Week.

If Mariah Pulice's sister has her way, we'll be seeing the Darien native back on American Idol next year.  "You're coming back next year. I'm making you," her sister said on camera right after Pulice, a Downers Grove South graduate, was sent home early into the show Wednesday night.  We unfortunately won't see her again this season. Pulice wowed judges with her audition of Let it Be and tale of battling anorexia. But in Hollywood Week, she was sent home after one performance. She said she was "antsy" before she sang, and she still seemed a bit nervous on stage.  "There's a plan for everything, and this just wasn't it," she said on camera after being sent home.  If you missed her audition, check it out here: Mariah Pulice performs "Let it …

The Next American Idol? Darien Native's Journey Continues

Darien native and Downers Grove South grad Mariah Pulice continues her quest on American Idol. In her audition, she wowed judges with her performance of "Let it Be" and tale of battling anorexia.

Darien native Mariah Pulice is no stranger to adversity. During her audition on American Idol last month, the 19-year-old Downers Grove South grad shared the story of her struggle with anorexia.  That story, and her stellar performance of The Beatles’ Let it Be, brought judge Mariah Carey to tears. All four judges gave emphatic yes votes and sent Pulice through to Hollywood.  If you missed her audition, check it out here: Mariah Pulice performs "Let it Be" in her American Idol audition. Now begins American Idol's version of adversity: Hollywood Week (or, as some call it, hell week). Pulice will need to go against, and in some cases work with, the other contestants trying to be the next Idol.  At the end of the week, only 20 men and 20 …

American Idol Sends Darien Native Mariah Pulice to Hollywood

Downers Grove South grad Mariah Pulice touched judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj with her beautiful voice and moving story.

It takes a lot to shake up a diva like Mariah Carey. But Mariah Pulice, of Darien, brought tears to the eyes of the Grammy-winning singer on Thursday night’s episode of American Idol with her lyrical rendition of The Beatles’ Let it Be.  “You touched me,” said Carey, before joining judges Randy Jackson and Nicki Minaj in ushering Pulice through to the reality show’s Hollywood round. The moment, however, was about more than just the power of Pulice’s voice. The Downers Grove South alum, 19, shared her struggle with anorexia in a video segment prior to her performance.  "If there was no music, I would not be alive," she said. “This eating disorder did not beat me, and it will not, it will not beat me.” Like what you see here?
