Back-to-School Q&A: DGN Principal Talks Student Achievement, School Pride

Patch sat down with North Principal Scott Kasik earlier this week to discuss what's ahead for the upcoming school year.

As parents think "back to school," school lunch come to mind. Here are some new twists to supplement the trusty standby, PB&J.

D86 Contractor: Construction Nearly Complete at Hinsdale Central, South

The district's contractor says there might be a couple of minor tasks that won't be ready for Aug. 22, but will be completed shortly thereafter during off-hours.

Summer construction at Hinsdale South and Hinsdale Central will be completed in time for District 86’s first day of school on Aug. 22, save for a couple of minor items that might have to be completed during the first weekend of the school year, a representative of the district's contractor said Monday night. “It doesn’t look too great … from outside,” Doug Lim of Gilbane, Inc., said of the construction projects. “But I assure you, come [next] Wednesday, school’s going to be open and everything’s going to be pretty much done.” The concrete curbs, sidewalks, and asphalt paving of the two schools' driveways are the most noticeable things that still need to be completed by Gilbane and its subcontractors, Lim said. Cass Junior High School Supply Lists for Grades 5-8

Start school shopping now with a list the supplies your student needs on the first day of school – Friday, Aug. 24, for students in grades K-8 in Cass School District 63.

Following are lists of school supplies needed by students at Cass Junior High School this year, as found on the district website.  According to the district’s website, many families may have pre-purchased items via the supply kits that were sold during the school year. The items will be available for pick during the school’s August registration. DuPage County's Back to School Fair for Low Income Children Set for Aug. 8

The fair is free but parents must bring proof of residency in DuPage County, identification for all family members and proof of family income.

The first day of school is right around the corner. Families living in DuPage County with low and reduced incomes have an opportunity to get their children prepared for the school year by attending the 22nd annual Back to School Fair, set from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, on the DuPage County Fairgrounds, 2015 W. Manchester Road, Wheaton. Coordinated by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Joliet, the fair offers a one-stop-shop for families with children ages newborn to 18-years-old. School supplies, dental and vision screenings, legal needs, voter registration, haircut coupons, information on nutrition, and much more will be available at the event.
