Truck Crashes into Fruitful Yield Store in Darien

No one was injured in the crash, which occurred late Wednesday morning in Market Place Plaza on 75th Street, police said.

No one was injured Wednesday when the driver of a pickup truck accidentally backed into a Darien storefront, police said. Darien Deputy Police Chief John Cooper said the truck crashed into Fruitful Yield Health Foods, 2159 75th St., late Wednesday morning after the driver's foot became stuck on the accelerator. The man was not believed to have been driving under the influence. No injuries were reported, and the incident is still under investigation, Cooper said. Fruitful Yield was forced to close Wednesday due to the extensive damage to the front of the store. Witnesses said that the neighboring Jenny Craig window also sustained considerable damage. Three Seriously Injured in Crash on Lemont Road

Two cars were badly damaged and three people were injured in a T-bone crash near Lemont Road and 97th Street on Friday night, authorities said.

Three people were seriously injured Friday night in a two-car, T-bone crash in unincorporated Lemont, authorities said. DuPage County Sheriff's police and the Lemont Fire Protection District responded just before 8 p.m. to the crash, which occurred just south of 97th Street on Lemont Road, fire officials said. Lemont Battalion Chief Matt Peksa said both drivers—one of whom had to be extricated—and a passenger were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Both vehicles sustained substantial damage. Most of Lemont Road was still shut down as of 11 p.m. Witnesses said all lanes were closes except a partial shoulder, and that both vehicles were still at the scene. Darien Residents Killed After SUV Hits Tree

The accident occurred in Westmont during the early morning hours Thursday.

A Darien couple is dead after their SUV struck a tree in Westmont and burst into flames early Thursday morning, according to the Westmont Police Department. Richard Klima, 60, and Arlene Majkrzak, 71, were traveling eastbound in the 500 block of West 59th Street when the Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by Klima left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled over. Westmont police responded at approximately 3:20 a.m., and the SUV was "engulfed in flames" when officers arrived, a police department release reads. The fire was extinguished by Westmont firefighters, and the victims were pronounced dead on the scene. Piano Gallery Remains Open For Business After Being Hit By 2 Cars in 3 Days

The Steinway Piano Gallery remains open after two accidents involving cars driving into the business a few weeks ago. Temporary doors were being installed Monday.

Buying a piano requires time and research and isn’t done haphazardly. But two recent incidents at the Steinway Piano Gallery at 120 S. Washington St.in downtown Hinsdale had Sales Manager Diane Duncan feeling her store was turning into a drive-thru business. In late February, the piano gallery experienced not one, but two accidents when drivers jumped the curb and hit the building within days of each other. The first accident took place Feb. 21, Duncan said. She was inside the business when she heard a loud noise and felt the building shake. A man who was parking his car jumped the curb and hit the building, but other than some displaced bricks, there wasn’t much damage, she said. No Charges Expected Following Death of Teen Hit in Darien

No criminal charges will be filed in the death of 15-year-old Hunter Himes, who died Sunday from brain injuries sustained when his bicycle was hit by a car in Darien.

No criminal charges will be filed in the death of Downers Grove teen Hunter Himes, who was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Darien in February 2012. Hunter, then 14, was riding his bike along Lemont Road in Darien when he was hit by an SUV making a right turn from Beller Drive. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, one that left him in a persistent vegetative state until he died Sunday morning in his home. Obituary: Hunter Himes, 15 The driver in the crash, Timothy J. Hagan of Darien, was found guilty in November of failing to yield to a pedestrian, despite his claim that Hunter road his bike into the crosswalk after he started moving. 1 Dead in Route 83 Car Crash, ABC Reports

Two people were critically injured in the car accident, which occurred Wednesday afternoon.

One person was killed and two more were in critical condition following a car accident Wednesday afternoon in unincorporated Lemont.  ABC News reports that the crash took place south of Bluff Road on southbound Route 83. According to ABC, two people were driving in a sedan, and one was killed. Route 83 in unincorporated Lemont remained closed as of 7 p.m. following the two-vehicle accident that occurred at about 3 p.m. Wednesday. ABC reported one fatality and two critically injured in the crash, but a spokesman in the DuPage County watch commander’s office declined to confirm any further details at press time. One Person Dead in Early Morning Accident on I-55

A three-car pileup on I-55 near Lemont Road led to a car fire, causing one death early Saturday morning.

A motorist died early Saturday after a three-car accident on Interstate 55 at Lemont Road led to a vehicle fire, according to a fire official. The accident occurred at about 3:50 a.m. on southbound I-55, said Bob Morris, Fire Prevention Bureau Director for the Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District. Three cars were involved in the accident, which led to a fire that caused one of the fatalities, Morris said. Firefighters on scene had to extricate the person from the vehicle. Two others involved in the accident were seriously injured and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. Accident on I-55 Slows Traffic

A motorcyclist suffered a few scrapes after striking the median Wednesday, Tri-State Fire officials said.

A motorcyclist suffered a few scrapes after sideswiping a median on Interstate 55 just east of Cass Avenue Wednesday afternoon, Tri-State Fire officials said.  The car in front of the motorcycle slammed on its brakes, causing the motorcyclist to swerve to avoid hitting it, Fire Chief Michelle Gibson said. Tri-State paramedics transported the motorcyclist to the hospital as a precaution, she said. Traffic was still backed up along I-55 between County Line Road and Cass Avenue as of about 1:45 p.m.

Funeral Services Set for Darien Man Killed in Crash Near Palos

The man was a passenger in a car involved in an early-morning collision Saturday outside Palos Hills.

Funeral arrangements have been scheduled for Ryan G. Osowski, 28, the Darien man who died Saturday after the car he was riding in crashed around 95th Street and South La Grange Road near Palos Hills. The visitation is scheduled for 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Zarzycki Manor Chapels, 8999 S. Archer Ave. in Willow Springs. Funeral services will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, also at Zarzycki, and will be followed at 10 a.m. with a mass of Christian burial at St. Fabian Church, 8300 Thomas Avenue in Bridgeview. Osowski was the son of Judy (Stefanski), Kenneth Osowski and Mark Feil. Charges Filed in Palos-Area Crash That Left Darien Man Dead

A Justice man was charged with eight counts of felony DUI after a crash left one man dead and three people hospitalized.

Charges have been filed in a car crash that killed a Darien man and injured several others. The crash occurred around 2 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of South La Grange Road and 95th Street in a forest preserve area near Palos Hills, police said. Sam Cafi, 28, of the 8300 block of South 79th Street in Justice, was charged with eight counts of felony driving under the influence, including DUI resulting in a death, according to a Cook County Sheriff's Office news release.
