Darien police incident reports, Oct. 26-29.
MONDAY, OCT. 29 Someone shattered the driver's door window of a car parked in the 1100 block of Chalet Drive between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. and stole a GPS. The total loss was $250. SUNDAY, OCT. 28 Gasoline was siphoned from a car in a parking lot in the 1100 block of 75th Street sometime between 4 p.m. Oct. 28 and 11 a.m. Nov. 1. The total loss was $29.47. The front passenger window of a car in the 8400 block of Captons was broken at about 7:47 p.m. The victim said a wallet was stolen, and their credit card was later used. Someone shattered, but didn’t break through, the glass in the front door of Veet Tobacco around 1:52 a.m., Darien police said. Nothing was missing and no one got inside, the owner said. The glass will cost at least $300 to replace. Someone took an iron bench overnight from the front porch of a home on the 2200 block of Carlow, police said. The bench was worth about $125. Someone put two holes in a double-paned window on the front side of a home on the 7700 block of Williams around 11 a.m., Darien police said. It’s not clear how the holes were made or how much it will cost to fix the window. A man took a bouquet of roses and several greeting cards from the Jewel-Osco at 7335 Cass Ave. around 11 a.m., police said. Alejandro Arzaga, 35, of the 500 block of Seventh Street in LaSalle, was arrested around 1:20 a.m. at Q Billiards, 8100 Cass Ave., Darien police said. A patrol officer said he saw Arzaga urinating on a friend’s truck. He was cited with public urination and his friend drove him home. Burglars smashed car windows in all four incidents, Darien police said.
Three car burglaries and one attempted car burglary happened along a roughly 1-mile corridor of Lemont Road on April 25, Darien police said. Burglars smashed car windows in each of the incidents. Two of the burglaries occurred between 4:15-4:35 p.m. in the XSport Fitness parking lot at 7511 Lemont Road, police said. A wallet and its contents, with a total value of about $200, were taken from one car, police said. A credit card from the wallet was used to make nearly $100 in charges. Vandals broke the back window of a 2001 Dodge Durango parked overnight on the 6800 block of Tennessee Drive, Darien police said. The window was worth about $500. That same night, vandals shattered the rear window of a van parked in the driveway of a home on the 8900 block of Kilkenny, police said. The window was also worth about $500. Burglars tried to pry open the door of a home on the 8900 block of Brandon sometime between 8 a.m. April 4 and 8 a.m. April 5, police said. Tools and accessories worth more than $1,500 were stolen from an unlocked van in a parking lot on the 1100 block of Chalet, Darien police said. The incident happened overnight on Christmas. Police reported 14 car burglaries in Darien during November.
The Darien Police Department is reminding residents to be cautious in the wake of a string of car burglaries around the city. Police reported 14 car burglaries in Darien during November. In most cases, the cars were unlocked. The department reminds residents to hide or remove from their car valuables such as purses, laptops, laptop bags, GPS units, iPods, and any cradles or docks for electronics. Roll up your windows and lock the doors when you leave your car. If you don’t park your car in a garage, make sure it is in a well-lit location. Finally, help out your neighbors by reporting any suspicious activity to 911.

Car burglaries from Nov. 13-20
A Victoria’s Secret bag containing clothes, shoes, a wallet and a credit card were taken from a car in the Walmart parking lot around 3:40 p.m., police said. The victim described the suspect as a black man between the ages of 20 and 30, around 5-foot, 8-inches tall, 125 to 130 pounds, and wearing an orange coat. The items taken were worth about $250. Someone rummaged through paperwork and left a book of CDs in the back of an unlocked car parked overnight on the 7800 block of Adams, police said. Nothing was reported missing.
