Visions for Vacancies: What Would be a Good Fit in Chestnut Court?

Darien Patch asks readers to play developer and share their ideas for open storefronts around town.

There’s been a lot of action in Darien’s Chestnut Court shopping center this past year or so. Oakridge Hobbies & Toys, Tuesday Morning, Kumon and El Puerto Mexican Restaurant have all found a niche there. Ross Dress for Less will also soon be joining the lineup.  A slim storefront, however, sits empty between Wilton Homewares and XSport Fitness. What would be the perfect complement to the other stores that call Chestnut Court home? Share your ideas in the comments.

Ross Dress for Less Eyes Chestnut Court Location

The discount clothing retailer is expected to sign a lease within the next 30 days, Inland Real Estate Vice President Jeff Howard said.

Two storefronts in the Chestnut Court shopping center on 75th Street are set to merge, becoming the home for a new clothing store in Darien.  Ross Dress for Less is expected to sign a lease within the next 30 days for a 25,000 square-foot space in the mall, said Inland Real Estate Vice President Jeff Howard at Monday’s City Council meeting. The discount retailer will move into spaces previously occupied by Loyola Medical Center and Factory Card and Party Outlet, which is consolidating with Party City in Downers Grove. Ross is expected to bring in about $9 million in sales annually, Howard said. While Chestnut Court has historically struggled to maintain tenants, Howard said recent additions including Oakridge Hobbies and Toys, Jo-Ann …

Loyola's Darien Health Center Moves to Burr Ridge Location

Move has been planned since early March; new center expects to see 150,000 patients a year.

The Darien outpost of Loyola University Health System closed Tuesday as staff and physicians prepared to move to a new location in Burr Ridge, Loyola officials said. Starting Monday, the general practitioners and pediatricians from the Loyola Center for Health at Darien will be integrated into the larger Burr Ridge facility, said Administrative Director Cheryl White. The move has been in the works since the Burr Ridge center opened in early March, White said. The center, which expects to see 150,000 patients this year, already houses specialties such as neurology and orthopedics. “Primary care fits with it,” White said. “We’ll have consistency across specialties and primary care.” In total, about 20 staff members, of whom about five or six…
