Coyote Kills Puppy in Darien

The Suburban Life reports that a coyote killed a puppy in a residential area. Read Patch's coverage of where other coyotes have been spotted and how to keep your pets safe.

A coyote attacked and killed a Maltese puppy Wednesday night in Darien, according to Suburban Life.  Darien resident Dan Shellstrom told Suburban Life that he let out the 6-year-old Harley in the back yard, and "I turned around and it sounded like a little girl screaming."  “It's a bad situation and I just don't want anyone else to have to go through what we had,” Shelstrom told Suburban Life. “He was a part of our family.” Read the full story on Suburban Life. OMG PD: Coyote Attack, Smoke Bomber, Drive-by Egging

Here's a round-up of recent and bizarre police report items from the area.

DOWNERS GROVE A dog was attacked by a coyote in the 5300 block of Meadow Lane in Downers Grove on Oct. 15, police said. A man was standing in his front yard around 6:30 a.m. when he heard his Havanese dog whimper, police said. When the man looked to see what had happened, he saw a coyote running northbound from the area with the dog in its jaws. The dog was 12 years old, weighed 11 pounds and was unleashed, police said. LA GRANGE Jamal D. Williams, 21, of the 7300 block of Winthrop Way, Downers Grove, was charged with attempted theft after a resident of the 500 block of South La Grange Road reported at 4:46 p.m. that he was chasing two men who had taken his bike from his backyard, police said.
