Construction on 75th Street Will End This Week

Business owners say sales were down between 30 and 50 percent during construction. They're hoping customers will return now that the project is near over.

Construction on 75th Street is slated to end this month after 8 months of lane closures and traffic delays. "We are in completion stage [of the project] doing final striping and clean-up," DuPage County Board Vice Chairman John Curran told Patch. "Three lanes are open in each direction, and traffic is back to normal. It should be done by end of this week."  Why 75th Street?  The main objective of the project was to widen 75th Street from two lanes in each direction to three lanes between Woodward and Lyman Avenues. Additional road work has included: The project was needed to improve safety and design, say officials, noting that there were 91 reported accidents at Lemont and 75th Street from 2009 to 2011. The construction workers seem to have no respect for cars in the area. They would blow debri all over the cars passing by. Thats why i avoided the area.   more ›

Darien Band to Play at Cozzi Corner Cruise Tonight

"When Discs Had Grooves," a band that includes three Darien residents, will be playing at the Cozzi Corner Tuesday Night Cruise tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  The band played at the Hinsdale South Booster Club Casino Night earlier this year.  Cruise night will take place at Cozzi Corner on the northwest corner of 75th Street and Lemont Road from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant is offering a coupon, good only for Tuesday, for two hot dogs, a 16-ounce drink and fries for $5.25. Hunter’s Hope: Ways You Can Support Injured Boy’s Recovery

Community members can donate in several ways to help ease the medical costs for a Downers Grove boy struck by a car Feb. 26 in Darien.

Red bracelets supporting a Lakeview Junior High eighth-grader’s recovery are now available to a wider audience. Cozzi Corner Hot Dogs and Beef in Downers Grove will be selling the bands that say Hunter’s Hope for $1, as well as hosting a six-month long fundraiser to help the family pay medical costs.  The 14-year-old Downers Grove boy remains hospitalized after sustaining serious injuries when he was struck by a car Feb. 26 while crossing Beller Drive in Darien with his bike. The hospital is not releasing any information about his condition.   Last week the rubber bracelets were for sale only at Lakeview and Prairieview schools.
