The Darien Police Department is warning residents not to trust phone calls claiming to be from a bank and asking for “verification.”
Several residents of Darien and Downers Grove were targeted over the weekend by automated calls that appear to have been part of a “phishing” scam attempt, the Darien Police Department said Monday. The robo-calls purported to be from an unspecified bank alerting residents that their debit cards had been compromised before gradually requesting various personal information, including account and PIN numbers, police said. “We’re not aware of any losses right now, but it seemed to be tied to at least one of our local banks,” said Darien Police officer Greg Cheaure. ““We don’t want to see people let their guard down… these types of scams happen on the Internet as well.” Cheaure said that seven calls were reported in Darien—meaning “there were…

No one was injured in the crash, which occurred late Wednesday morning in Market Place Plaza on 75th Street, police said.
No one was injured Wednesday when the driver of a pickup truck accidentally backed into a Darien storefront, police said. Darien Deputy Police Chief John Cooper said the truck crashed into Fruitful Yield Health Foods, 2159 75th St., late Wednesday morning after the driver's foot became stuck on the accelerator. The man was not believed to have been driving under the influence. No injuries were reported, and the incident is still under investigation, Cooper said. Fruitful Yield was forced to close Wednesday due to the extensive damage to the front of the store. Witnesses said that the neighboring Jenny Craig window also sustained considerable damage.
