The team is 33-3 over the past two seasons, coach Jennifer Crum said.
The Eisenhower Junior High girls volleyball team put together and incredible record the past two seasons, in part because of their comfort playing together. They went 33-3 in 2011 and 2012, and were 12-0 in conference this season. Coach Jennifer Crum said most of the girls have been playing together for four or five years now between Eisenhow and Lions Junior Volleyball Club. Crum noted that two of the three losses the past two season were at a GLC club tournament, losing to two Illini Elite club teams. The girls also participated in Volley for the Cure at Hinsdale South, where they played in an exhibition match against Westview Hills. The coach said she was very excited about the season and is proud of the team's accomplishments over …

The board's vote means Lace School could rehire two teachers whose jobs were eliminated for the upcoming school year.
After cutting six positions in March, the District 61 School Board voted unanimously Tuesday to add four staff members. Lace School will get one third- and one fourth-grade teacher, while Eisenhower Junior High will hire a PE teacher and a guidance counselor The PE teacher and guidance counselor roles are new positions. The move means, however, the district may rehire some Lace employees whose positions were eliminated for the 2012-13 school year. The latest enrollment reports show the schools will have more students next year than previously expected. Adding third- and fourth-grade teachers would enable Lace to have seven sections at each of those grade levels. It would reduce the third-grade class size to 23 from 27 and lower the …

The band took home five awards last weekend at the Music in the Parks Festival in Branson, MO.
It was a trip filled with music, spelunking and fried chicken. But the four-day weekend trip Eisenhower Junior High’s band took to Branson, MO, was also brimming with success. The band took home five separate awards when it competed against 17 other midwestern bands at the Music in the Parks Festival at Silver Dollar City. The jazz and marching bands each placed first, while the concert band came in second in its class, missing the top spot by just half a point. Eighth-grader Nicole Perillo received the outstanding overall soloist award for her trumpet playing. Perhaps the greatest source of pride, however, is the Esprit de Corps award Eisenhower received for the students’ outstanding character throughout the weekend. That integrity is so …

Eighth-grader Mike Roberge wrote, edited and produced the minute-and-a-half long animated clip.
He’s only in eighth grade, but Mike Roberge can already add director, writer and composer to his list of accomplishments. Mike, 14, created a film about diversity for the local PTA Reflections contest that features animation he orchestrated, music he composed and a message he wrote. Now his entry is heading to the state level. The Eisenhower Junior High student’s film features dozens of tiny rainbow-hued figures. Each time a different instrument plays, a differently colored figure appears until a globe shape in the middle of the screen fills with the miniature people. “I wanted to incorporate something with music because when I think of diversity, I think of something where everyone plays something different,” Mike said. Spring musical “Beauty and the Beast” runs Thursday through Saturday at Eisenhower Junior High.
Eisenhower Junior High Choir Director Puja Modi said she knew it would be tough to bring the musical Beauty and the Beast to life. “Disney is difficult because everyone has a preconceived idea of what it should look and sound like,” she said. But she also knew she had a secret weapon—the perfect cast. “Our cast has done a great job of making the musical their own and really living and breathing their characters,” Modi said. After weeks of rehearsal, the cast will share just how tailor made they are for their roles when they perform Beauty and the Beast this Thursday through Saturday at Eisenhower Junior High. Just as in a professional production, Modi said the students don elaborate costumes, learn detailed choreography and memorize …
