OBITUARY: Edwin E. Tomei
A Darien resident since 1969, Ed was alderman of Ward 4 from 1977 to 1985 and served as the fire and police commissioner for three years. He was named Darien Citizen of the Year in 2000.
The following obituary was submitted to Patch by Modell Funeral Home: Edwin E Tomei was born Jan. 3, 1943, to David and Kathryn Tomei. Ed and his older brother (Davide) and Sister (Phyllis) lived in Oak Park. He was a graduate of Fenwick High School, class of 1960, and attended St. Norbert College in West DePere, Wisconsin. Ed was introduced to his wife of 48 years while attending college and they were married on Sept. 19, 1964. Ed worked in the family business, Affiliated Insurance Consultants, starting in 1967. He remained at Affiliated through the merger in 1997 with USI Insurance Services. Ed was a Senior Vice President of sales until he retired in 2010.
