The Homecoming Court King and Queen were among those that waved to the crowds Saturday morning along 1st Street.
The Hinsdale Central Homecoming Parade traveled straight down 1st Street in downtown Hinsdale Saturday, opening a long day of Red Devils activities. At noon, Hinsdale Central plays Hinsdale South in the Homecoming football game at Dickinson Field. Then at 8 p.m., students will head back to the school for a James Bond-themed dance. Hinsdale Central's Homecoming dance takes place Saturday night at 7 p.m., and we all know the highlight of night (at least for the parents) is the pre-dance photo shoot. Patch wants to showcase those pics. The first homecoming social for Downers Grove South will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Moose Lodge. Food and beverages will be served during a live broadcast of the school's football game.
The District 99 Education Foundation will hold two homecoming socials in the coming days to celebrate the homecomings of both Downers Grove high schools. The events will be held at Friday, Sept. 28, for South's homecoming, and Friday, Oct. 5, for North. Both socials will run from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Downers Grove Moose Lodge, 1030 Warren Ave., where the schools' football games will be screened live. The socials will include pizza from Skuddlebutts, wings from Lemon Tree Grocer, popcorn from the Tivoli Theatre and a shuttle bus from the alumni tent to the Moose. Homecoming Week is underway at Hinsdale Central, where on Monday afternoon the 2012 Homecoming Court was announced during an after-school pep rally. The 2012 Homecoming Court was announced Monday afternoon at a pep rally after school.
Hinsdale Central's 24-member Homecoming Court 2012 was introduced to a packed gym during a pep rally Monday afternoon that got started a little late after the school's fire alarm went off right around 2:40 p.m. (How convenient.) The pep rally concluded the first school day of Hinsdale Central's Homecoming Week, which will culminate Saturday with a football game against Hinsdale South and the "A Night in the Windy City" dance. Due to Monday night's thunderstorms, Hinsdale South's Homecoming parade, Stinger Bowl and Bonfire will take place Tuesday night.
UPDATED: Sept. 18 at 6:30 a.m. Due to thunderstorms, all Homecoming festivities planned for Monday night at Hinsdale South have been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 18. This includes the Homecoming Parade, Stinger Bowl, and Bonfire. Originally the events were scheduled for Monday night, with the parade scheduled to start at 5 p.m. at Darien Community Park, Stinger Bowl at 6 p.m. in the stadium and and the bonfire scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. in the stadium. The Hinsdale South Homecoming Parade will now begin at the Darien Community Park at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18. DGS beats Hinsdale South for the sixth straight year behind big efforts from its defense and running back Josh Wiliams.
The Rebel Cannon will remain in Downers Grove for at least another year. Downers Grove South extended the trophy’s stay by blowing out Hinsdale South 49-6 Friday night in Downers Grove. The two rivals have battled for the Cannon every year since 1966 and the Mustangs have now won it six years in a row, meaning this year’s seniors are the third straight class to have never lost the Cannon. “We’ve always beaten Hinsdale South, so it’s nice to finish it off,” Downers South Senior Defensive Lineman Jeremy Ulrich said. The Mustangs, who improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the West Suburban Conference Gold Division, were led again by running back Josh Williams, who continued his terrific senior season by rushing 37 times for 233 yards and four …
