Benson scores 21 for Hornets, but Downers South wins WSC Gold opener.
An assistant coach from Dartmouth was scouting Hinsdale South Center Brock Benson Friday night, but he ended up seeing a lot more of Downers Grove South Guard Jerron Wilbut than the Hornets would have liked. The 6'8'' Benson scored a game-high 21 points but had to sit out eight minutes in the first half after picking up three early fouls. With the big guy on the bench, Downers South was able to build a solid lead en route to a 58-46 victory in the West Suburban Conference Gold Division opener for both teams in Downers Grove. Benson scored the first four points of the game on a pair of easy layups, but was whistled for three quick fouls, the last of which came just 2:23 into the game. Downers South’s Kevin Hall made both of the ensuing free…

Hinsdale South 50, Willowbrook 22. Keontae Hall's four TD's in his final home game gives Hornets their first winning season since 2005 and an at-large bid for the state playoffs.
As far as beginnings go, Hinsdale South’s start against Willowbrook was not memorable. Lucky for them it’s how you finish. Hinsdale South delivered plenty of fireworks in their 50-22 rout to close the regular season. On the opening kickoff, Willowbrook returner Brandon Smith went all the way in a 90-yard return to put the Warriors (0-9, 0-6) up 6-0. On the ensuing kickoff, the short, high kick bounced backwards in front of receiver Bryant Hayes and the Warriors recovered on the Hornets’ 22. Running back Raphael Garcia scored on a 10-yard run and QB Steven Ferguson scored on an 8-yard QB sneak for a two-point conversion after a false start penalty. Ninety seconds in, the Hornets (5-4, 4-2) were down 14 to the winless Warriors. Senior …

Senior running back Keontae Hall bulldozed his way for 206 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Hinsdale South's 42-0 win Friday night.
Hinsdale South head coach Michael Barry challenged his offensive line prior to the team's homecoming battle against the Morton Mustangs. Not only was the challenge accepted, but the Hornets passed the test with flying colors as they steamrolled their way to a 42-0 victory Friday night. Senior running back Keontae Hall was the main beneficiary of the offensive line's rugged play up front. Hall rushed for 206 yards and scored two touchdowns in the victory. “We challenged them before the game," Barry said. "We put it upon them and told them, 'If you get the job done, we've got a good chance to win.' We're a young offensive line, but they're coming together and working hard.” The Hornets' hard work paid off in the form of a 21-point effort in …

A Second City performance Friday night brought Hinsdale South students and other community members together for some laughs.
The Second City National Touring Company earned loud applause and high praise from audience members for its performance on Friday at Hinsdale South High School. Burr Ridge resident Juzer Chinwalla attended the show with his wife, Vandana, and his daughter, Anisha, who is a junior at Hinsdale South High School. “I loved it. I thought it was really funny,” said Anisha, who has a friend who takes a Second City improvisation class. “I’m amazed how they can improvise like that,” said Vandana Chinwalla. Juzer Chinwalla agreed, saying that the improvisation was so high-quality that it almost seemed like the actors had rehearsed it that way. “We were surprised by how good it was. Overall, it was a great experience,” he said. The two-hour show …
