Three Downers Grove South High School staff members were recently recognized for their outstanding achievements. South High Principal Steve Bild and career and technical education teacher Patrick Fardy were each honored this month for their contributions to the school. Longtime varsity football coach John Belskis also hit a career milestone last week, earning the 200th win of his 24-year career. Bild was honored by the Village of Woodridge during its annual Community Recognition Awards ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The Community Recognition Program recognizes individuals or groups of individuals for "outstanding community service that contributes to improving the well-being of the people of Woodridge." Senior running back has another monster game.
Downers Grove South senior running back Josh Williams ran for 366 yards in the Mustangs' opening game of the season three weeks ago. Last week, he had five first-half touchdowns. And on Friday night, it was much of the same. Williams had 12 carries for 285 yards and six touchdowns — all in the first half — as the Mustangs made quick and easy work of Leyden by a 49-0 score line. "It's a great opportunity. We're having those big games that we've all been waiting for," said the senior who has interest from a number of Division 1 programs. “We don't take anything lightly and that it was what we plan to do every game." When Downers Grove South High School’s football team opened training camp on Aug. 10, running back Josh Williams showed up healthy and sporting at least five pounds of extra muscle after hitting the weights hard in the off-season. That’s bad news for opponents charged with trying to slow down the 5-9, 175-pound senior, who begins his third season as the Mustangs’ starting tailback. In 2010, Johnson rushed for more than 1,200 yards and 21 touchdowns, including six in one game, despite missing all or part of four games with an ankle injury.
