Darien Police: We Need Residents Help to Stop Motor Vehicle Burglaries

Motor vehicle burglaries are up in Darien, which the Darien Police Chief says can lead to other crimes.

A recent spate of motor vehicle burglaries in Darien and the surrounding communities has Darien Police actively reaching out to remind residents to lock their car doors and keep valuables out of sight. The Darien Police Department is launching a full-blown campaign to inform motorists how important it is to take those two precautions. "Any crime is a springboard to other crimes," said Darien Police Chief Ernest Brown. Brown told Patch that the department is taking the motor vehicle burglaries seriously, but police need residents' help to get results. "About 90 percent of the vehicle burglaries that take place in Darien happen because the vehicles are unlocked," said Brown. Brown said people also should take steps to park in lighted areas …

So the police cannot stop or prevent crimes from happening. Glad to see it is admitted. So why is Illinois the ONLY state in the U.S. that does NOT allow law abiding citizens the right to keep and "bear" firearms for legal defensive purposes???   more ›

Police Blotter: Recent Motor Vehicle Burglaries in Darien

Darien Police reports Aug. 14 - Aug. 23.

MONDAY, AUGUST 20 Sometime between 9 p.m. on Aug. 19 and 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 20, someone rummaged through an unlocked car parked in the driveway of a home on the 3000 Block of Grandview. Several items were reported stolen to the Darien Police Department, with an estimated loss of $120. Sometime between 12:01 a.m. on Aug. 19 and and 8 a.m. on Aug. 20, someone removed a number of electronic items and a wallet from an unlocked car parked on the 8900 Block of Brandon. The car's owner said a number of other items were disturbed. The total estimated loss was $465. Police Blotter: Recent Motor Vehicle Burglaries, Theft in Darien

Darien Police Reports July 31 to Aug. 5.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 5 Someone broke into a car on the 1100 Block of Hinswood sometime between Aug. 3 and Aug. 5. The burglary occurred between the hours of 3 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. According to Darien Police reports, a red toolbox on the floor of the passenger side was stolen. The owner of the car said he had left the driver's door unlocked while parked in the parking lot. When the driver got in the car to  drive to work, he noticed that his tool box was missing. The estimated loss was around $400. Sometime between Aug. 1 and Aug. 5, someone stole four iron/metal patio chairs from a fenced backyard patio on the 8100 Block of Arrow.
