About 200 people attended a prayer service at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Darien Tuesday night.
About 200 people gathered at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Darien for a prayer service Tuesday night for an eighth-grader at Lakeview Junior High School who was seriously injured Sunday. The boy has been part of the church's religious education program since he was in second grade, according to Gavin Quinn, a retired priest who led Tuesday's service. "We must have hope," Quinn told the crowded room. "We must pray that God will hold (him) in the palm of his hand, that (he) will be able to graduate middle school, be confirmed and attend high school." Tuesday's prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. A vigil is set to take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Junior High.
Friends and family will gather at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a prayer service at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, 8404 Cass Ave. in Darien, for a 14-year-old Downers Grove boy police say was pinned underneath a car Sunday. The boy, who has not been identified by authorities, was crossing Beller Drive with his bike in Darien late Sunday afternoon when he was hit by a car making a right turn onto Lemont Road, Darien police said. He was initially treated for serious injuries at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital’s trauma center in Downers Grove before being airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
