Parents of 14-year-old Hunter Himes say he won't recover from injuries sustained in February, when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle home from a friend's house.
It's been nine months since 14-year-old Hunter Himes was struck by a car while riding his bike in Darien, and for the first time, his family is feeling some sense of closure. Hunter, who would have been a freshman at Downers Grove South this fall, was left in a persistent vegetative state from brain injuries suffered in the accident. His parents, Mark and Terra Ihde, put him on hospice this week after learning he would not recover. For the past several months, the Ihdes have been attending court hearings for the driver in the crash, Timothy J. Hagan, who pleaded not guilty to failing to yield to a pedestrian. Darien-Woodridge fire paramedics performed advanced life-support on the boy while taking him to the hospital, according to a release.
Updated: 5:39 p.m. Monday A teenage boy from unincorporated Downers Grove sustained serious injuries when he became trapped under a car while riding his bicycle near Beller and Lemont roads in Darien around 4:56 p.m. Sunday, Darien-Woodridge Fire District officials said. Fire personnel had to extract the boy by lifting the car off his lower body with two high-pressure air bags placed under the front passenger side, according to a Darien-Woodridge release. Lockport police say the man had sex with a 17-year-old girl at the school where he worked.
A Darien man has been charged with sexually abusing a 17-year-old female student in Lockport Township High School District 205, according to police. Timothy J. Hagan, 39, of the 3000 block of Drover Lane in Darien, was arrested Thursday and charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse in connection with a 2009 incident, according to a press release from the Lockport Police Department. Hagan, who at the time worked in the Lockport school district’s IT department, is accused of having sex with the then-17-year-old victim sometime between April 27 and May 29, 2009, Will County State's Attorney spokesman Chuck Pelkie said.
