UPDATED: Dec. 8 Darien residents may have noticed a small hike in fees on their water bills last year. That rise became official after City Council approved a resolution Monday that entered Darien into an agreement with DuPage County for water and sewer meter reporting and reading. The fee increase came on the heels of a rate study the county conducted on its water and sewer system. Darien pays roughly $40,000 a year for the county's meter reading services, according to a report prepared for the city's Municipal Services Committee. After the rate study, the county determined Darien should increase its yearly contribution to $150,000. The city incorporated that larger contribution into its 2010-11 fiscal year budget.
