We announce the winners of our Chicago-area Christmas cookie contest, just in time for the big day.
We asked our loyal Patch readers to show off their baking prowess this holiday season. We called on the Christmas Cookie Queen, the Host with the Most in Oven Mitts—the ones whose baked goods land them invitations to every holiday party in the neighborhood. During the Great Patch Christmas Cookie Bake-off, we sought out your sweet treats in an attempt to find the best Christmas cookie in the Chicago area. And you did not disappoint. Patch Associate Regional Editors Steven Jack and Lauren Traut took on the daunting task of sampling the cookies and choosing a winner. Darien resident Julie Stone bakes sweet treats for people and donates the profits to the People's Resource Center, which helps feed families and get them back on their feet.
A Darien woman is making life a little sweeter for people in the area by combining her greatest passions: baking and volunteering. Julie Stone has loved baking all of her life, but it wasn't until a few years ago that she realized she could put her skills to work by helping people. For her Christmas present in 2009, Stone's husband signed her up for cake-decorating classes at Wilton Homewares in Darien. She enjoyed it so much that she brought the hobby home and decorated cakes, "but that got fattening pretty fast," Stone said. So she started baking cakes for other people—book clubs, Sweet 16 birthday parties and more. Need a little 'good' news in your life?
