Kids Find Human Bones in Woodridge Forest

The remains were discovered on Saturday afternoon near Ide's Grove East Park; police are investigating their origin.

Two children walking in a wooded area near the 7900 block of Lemont Road in Woodridge on Saturday around 1:30 p.m. discovered skeletal human remains, launching a major investigation, the Chicago Tribune reports. According to the paper, teeth were found and a dental examination was scheduled for Monday; a forensic “bone specialist” is also being consulted.  “We have no leads as to who this is,” DuPage County Coroner Richard A. Jorgensen told the paper, adding that investigators do not know the gender of the person or the cause or manner of death, and declined to give any more information as to the parts of the body found. Year in Review: New Police Chiefs Make an Impact

Ken Boehm and Ernest Brown took different paths to their roles as police chief, but both took the reins in Woodridge and Darien this year.

Both Darien and Woodridge welcomed new police chiefs in 2012, bringing new leadership to the towns' departments.  Ken Boehm, Woodridge Boehm has served with the Woodridge Police Department for 24 years, first serving as a patrol officer in Feb. 1988. He was promoted to sergeant in June 1999 and then to deputy chief in June 2005.  While he had opportunities to go to other communities, Boehm stayed in Woodridge, he said, because he found a home here.  "It's a great department," Boehm said. "There's a comrarderie that exists here. It's very warming, like meeting old friends. They greeted me with open arms."  He served as interim chief following the retirement of former Chief Steve Herron on Nov. 11, and was selected after 116 people applied …

Man Charged in Stabbing Death, Sex Assault of Woodridge Woman

Adam Belmont, of Northlake, is charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Woodridge resident Alyssa Van Meter.

A Northlake man is accused of stabbing to death and then sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend, a Woodridge resident. He was denied bond in DuPage County Court on Monday.  According to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, 23-year-old Adam Belmont, of Northlake, is charged with the first-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend, Woodridge resident Alyssa Van Meter.  Belmont appeared in court Monday and was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault and one count of home invasion, both Class X felonies.  Stay updated with breaking news alerts about your community.  His next court date is Jan. 14.
