Safety Village Names 25th Anniversary Logo Contest Winner

Dina Tantillo designed the award-winning logo, which will be featured on T-shirts and pamphlets throughout the summer.

Lace School fourth-grader Dina Tantillo said she’s always loved to doodle and draw. Now her art will also help make a difference.  Safety Village selected one of Dina’s drawings to be its 25th anniversary logo, which will appear on T-shirts and pamphlets throughout summer 2012. Safety Village Director Cindie Hagen said the decision for the selection committee was easy. “When I first saw (Dina's picture), I really welled up to see a child do it so beautifully,” she said. Dina filled a bright red stop sign with all sorts of images and safety reminders. She said she drew a street around the border of the sign because kids need to watch for traffic when they’re walking in the road. Along with sketches of bike helmets and stoplights, she …

Home Run Inn Celebrates 25 Years in Darien

The restaurant celebrated Friday—fittingly—with a pizza party.

For a restaurant chain to be in business for 65 years is a feat. For that chain to stay within the same family for four generations is an even bigger one.  But somehow Home Run Inn has made it work in the Chicago area, decade after decade. It celebrated a related milestone close to home Friday when it threw a pizza party in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Darien location.  “Darien was a blossoming suburb,” said President Dan Costello, “and we were able to come in and establish ourselves as a community-friendly restaurant from day one.”  Throughout its history in Darien, Home Run Inn has lived up to its aspirations as a community partner, Mayor Kathleen Weaver said.
