On Monday night, several Hinsdale South students who live at the Hinsdale Lake Terrace apartment complex in unincorporated Willowbrook watched as a friend and former classmate was gunned downed on the grounds of the apartment community off Route 83. As journalists, our job is to find as many answers as we can to the questions out there and report facts that will help keep the public informed. Retaliation Over Hinsdale South Grad's Shooting a Concern for Apartment Community
Social workers are striving to help the community come together in the wake of 18-year-old Joshua Holmes' shooting death in unincorporated Willowbrook, which they say has aroused a lot of anger.
Twenty-four hours after a fellow resident was gunned down in their apartment complex, members of the Hinsdale Lake Terrace community gathered at the site where it happened. Stuffed animals were placed on the curb next to where 18-year-old Joshua Holmes fell after he had been shot. White paint covers the spot where the 2012 Hinsdale South graduate's blood had spilled on the pavement. It was about 6:30 p.m. Monday when neighbors of the apartment complex heard the sound of gunshots. It was a nice night out, with temperatures in the high 60s, so dozens of young people were out enjoying the weather. Joshua Holmes, 18, was a 2012 Hinsdale South graduate who was the victim of a drive-by shooting Monday night in unincorporated Willowbrook.
UPDATED: 4:50 a.m. on Sept. 26 Hinsdale South staff and administrators are working closely with HCS Family Services in Hinsdale to provide support for about 250 students who live in the Hinsdale Lake Terrace Apartment complex in unincorporated Willowbrook. A 2012 Hinsdale South graduate was shot and killed on the grounds of the apartment complex where he lived, and a few Hinsdale South students were witnesses of the shooting, according to Hinsdale South Principal Brian Waterman. As someone who was in a classroom of 10 with Josh, I can't believe my eyes. I had no idea about this until I was browsing my friends pictures until I saw his face and the words RIP JOSH underneath. Josh was a great guy, sure he made me angry sometimes and yeah he'd insult me, jokingly and sometimes not but he was a really awesome man. I always laughed at the jokes he'd tell.
