Having taught junior high and high school English for 33 years, I have seen every trend and fad in the education world as it unfurled, and mostly unraveled.  I was also a teacher advocate for most of my career, fighting for better teacher working conditions.  Especially now, with many attacking those in education professions, we need to understand how the system works and where it needs improvements without blaming the very people we expect to fix the problems.
