Darien Native Andrew Salgado a Finalist for Top Country Star Contest

The winner gets to open for Toby Keith and gets a record deal.

Darien native Andrew Salgado, a singer-songwriter, recently entered his song "My Family" into the Pepsi Southern Original contest, which is seeking to find the next big country star.

He said he didn't think anything would happen, but now he's made the semifinals and performed in Alabama for a celebrity panel.

The winner of the contest gets to open for Toby Keith, Eli Young Band and Darryl Worley on the main stage at Frank Brown Park of the three-day festival in Panama City Beach, FL. Along with that, the winner will get a development deal with a Nashville management group, a song produced by an award-winning producer and a music video for the single.

Salgado said 40 percent of the equation to determine a winner is based on fan votes. As of Sept. 5, Salgado was ranked 18 of 29 finalists.
