Police: Man Opened Fire on Crowd in Westmont

A Melrose Park 20-year-old is accused of shooting repeatedly at people in a Westmont parking lot on July 5.

A 20-year-old Melrose Park man stands accused of firing a gun into a crown of people in Westmont at around 6:15 p.m. on July 5, the Suburban Life reports.

According to the paper, police have charged Francisco Marquez, of the 4100 block of North Park St., Melrose Park, with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm.

Marquez is accused of stopping his Ford Explorer near the corner of Chicago and Linden avenues in Westmont and shooting several times into a group of people in a parking lot; no one was hit or injured, the Chicago Tribune said.

He was arrested Wednesday evening in Melrose Park and had bail set at $300,000 on Thursday morning, according to the paper.
