D86 Board Wants New Superintendent Picked By Jan. 1
Search firms interested in helping the District 86 Board of Education find Nicholas Wahl's permanent replacement will be interviewed at an upcoming meeting.
The District 86 Board of Education is planning a special meeting next week to interview search firms interested in placing the district’s next superintendent, someone the board would like to have picked by Jan. 1.
Former Superintendent Nicholas Wahl left District 86 suddenly in August and took a new job in Carmel, Ind. Assistant superintendent for instruction Bruce Law has been the acting superintendent ever since.
Board member Richard Skoda said he’s been “very impressed” with Law and it wouldn’t be fair to him or other potential candidates to go through the entire search process if Law is the presumptive choice of the board.

“I think in private we need to have a discussion, does Dr. Law have what it takes or not, and if not, tell him,” Skoda said.
Board member Victor Casini said he’d be “very interested” in discussing Law’s candidacy in closed session. No other board members made an open-session comment about Law as a candidate.
